Our story
A bird book, a country, and a different kind of safari company.
Turakoli exists because one Ugandan wanted visitors to see his country the way he sees it.

01
A fascination with nature
Hakim Miggade grew up surrounded by Uganda's birdlife. A book about birds, received as a child, turned everyday curiosity into something closer to study — names, calls, habits, seasons.

02
A journey into tourism
He went on to study tourism, learning the professional side of a country he already knew instinctively: its parks, its ecosystems, its distances and its seasons.

03
The idea behind Turakoli
The idea was simple and stubborn: show visitors the Uganda he knew — not a destination to be consumed, but a living ecosystem shared by people and wildlife.

04
Turakoli founded in 2020
Turakoli Wild Safaris was created as a local company, with the ambition that tourism could create unforgettable experiences while respecting wildlife and the communities that make them possible.

05
WorldProject's early support
WorldProject supported the early development of the initiative through mentoring, financial support and practical assessment, helping turn an idea into a working local business.

06
Building a responsible model
Early safari experiences were tested and refined with volunteers and visitors, so that itineraries were safe, meaningful and respectful before they were offered.

07
Where Turakoli is today
Turakoli welcomes travellers to discover Uganda through wildlife, local knowledge and responsible tourism — with one third of profits committed to community initiatives.
